Don’t Be Afraid of Financial Education for Kids
As a parent or legal guardian, you’re the first person to introduce your child to the concept of money. It may sound intimidating, but don’t get spooked by the pressure of teaching them the right or wrong way to save. We’re here to help give you the best resources for financial education for kids. Let’s get started!
What Age Should I Start Teaching My Kids about Finances?
Do you remember being little and thinking that your parent’s credit card just paid for things without money? Credit cards may be a bit extreme for children to understand, but there is plenty you can teach your little one about finances. According to a study by the University of Cambridge, you can start teaching your children about finances as early as three years old. While that may seem young, three-year-olds are just beginning to learn their numbers and letters at this developmental age. You can incorporate money into their day-to-day education.
Learning tools like counting bears are a great way to show children visual examples of how numbers work when bears are added or taken away. Later on, you can start introducing coins, cash, and even a debit card. The earlier a child can use things they learn with real-world examples, the better the concepts will stick and be understood. See, financial education for kids isn’t so spooky!
